FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Somatic therapy helps you tune into what your body is carrying and create space for it to soften and settle. As tension and patterns begin to release through the nervous system, you can feel more grounded, present, and able to respond to life with greater flexibility, choice, and a sense of ease.

  • Our sessions are different from traditional therapy because we pay attention to both your words and your body's responses. We may pause to notice sensations, explore how memories and stories live in your body, or follow what's emerging emotionally and physically in real time.

Some sessions focus more on talking, others on movement or body awareness, especially during TRE. We follow whatever your body and nervous system are ready for that day.

  • Over time, this work can help your body release held tension, your nervous system feel steadier, and your mind and body respond to life with more presence, flexibility, and choice.

Every person's experience is unique, and change tends to show up in the quiet moments — how you sleep, how you recover, how you move through stress, conflict, and the unexpected, and how you feel about yourself and your life.

  • Scheduling is flexible and shaped around what your nervous system needs. Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, then adjust from there — because every person's pace is different. Some find relief within a few months; others benefit from longer work as they heal and integrate their experiences.

As your system builds momentum, sessions naturally tend to become less frequent or shift from 50 to 25 minutes. We follow what your body needs rather than a predetermined timeline, and we'll check in regularly together to review your goals and progress.

  • Yes, a set number of sliding scale spots are maintained that open up as scheduling allows. Please reach out to be added to the list.

  • I operate as a private pay practice, which allows me to offer the specialized time and attention your healing deserves without insurance limitations.

I can provide you with a superbill for potential reimbursement from your insurance company. This would require me to give you a diagnosis.

  • Somatic therapy may be right for you if you notice tension, stress, or anxiety living in your body, sense there's more your body wants to share, or want a gentle approach that includes your whole self: mind, body, spirit.

It tends to be a good fit if you've tried talk therapy but feel like something is still stuck, carry experiences that words haven't fully touched, or want to understand your patterns rather than just manage them. You don't need a diagnosis or trauma history to benefit — many people come simply because they're ready to feel more grounded and like themselves.

  • No. Somatic therapy supports anyone whose body holds tension, overwhelm, or patterns that limit ease and choice.

You don't need a diagnosis or a specific history — you just need to be curious about what's happening in your body and ready to work with it.

  • No. You are not required to retell or relive your story for this care to be effective.

We can work with what is happening in your body and nervous system in the present moment. Often, healing unfolds through sensation, regulation, and integration rather than detailed recounting.

You are always welcome to share what feels important or meaningful. The pace and depth are guided by your readiness, your consent, and what feels supportive to your system.

  • Sessions are collaborative and guided by your nervous system and lived experience. We begin by orienting to what feels most present or activated, creating steadiness and enough safety to explore at a pace your body and psyche can process.

You may find yourself talking, slowing down to notice sensation, gently tracking patterns, exploring parts of you that emerge, or using simple regulation practices.

Some sessions are reflective and relational. Others are more experiential and body-centered.

There is no single agenda beyond supporting greater capacity, integration, and a felt sense of safety within yourself.

  • TRE, or Tension & Trauma Release Exercises, helps your body release stored stress and tension through its natural tremoring mechanism. It is gentle, non-invasive, and guided by your body’s innate wisdom.

In a session, you'll move through simple exercises that warm up the body and invite tremoring. The tremors do the work. Many people notice feeling more relaxed, grounded, and at ease afterward, and with regular practice, the effects build over time. TRE can be especially supportive for anxiety, chronic tension, hypervigilance, and difficulty sleeping.

You’re welcome to explore more about TRE on my blog page.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to sit, move, or lie down with ease — soft, breathable fabrics are ideal.

For TRE® sessions, you’ll be on a thick yoga mat with a blanket, so clothing that allows gentle movement is helpful.

No special preparation is needed beyond arriving as you are. You don’t need to prepare notes or have anything “figured out.” We’ll orient together to what feels most present and supportive that day.
